My love affair with Italian cuisine began the moment I set foot in Italy during one of our cruises. Among the many delights, Tiramisu stood out as a symbol of indulgence, a dessert that perfectly embodies the romance and richness of Italian culture. This no-bake dessert, layered with creamy mascarpone and coffee-soaked ladyfingers, topped with a dusting of cocoa powder, is my go-to recipe for bringing a piece of Italy into my home.
Ingredients:
- 6 egg yolks
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 cup mascarpone cheese
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 2 cups strong brewed coffee, cooled
- 1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
- 2 packages ladyfingers (about 24 pieces)
- Unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting
- Dark chocolate shavings, for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar until thick and pale. Add mascarpone and blend until smooth.
- In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture.
- Combine coffee and coffee liqueur in a shallow dish. Briefly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, making sure not to soak them.
- Arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of a serving dish. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers. Repeat layers.
- Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight. Before serving, dust with cocoa powder and garnish with chocolate shavings.
This Tiramisu recipe is more than just a dessert; it’s a journey through the flavors and textures that make Italian cuisine so beloved. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply indulging in a sweet treat, this Tiramisu will surely leave you and your guests longing for more. Buon appetito!
